Virtual Columns


This is one of a series of posts highlighting new features available in version 13 of JMP.

Joining tables has gotten much easier in version 13 of JMP.  In fact you can get the benefits of joined data without actually performing the join!  This new feature is referred to as a virtual join, and gives you access to virtual columns in a data table.

Even with a virtual join you of course need to identify the columns that will act to link the data across tables.  But this information can be established using column properties (in one table right click on a column and select Link ID , in the second table right click on a column and select Link Reference).

And that’s it.  In the graphic below the Inspector column exists in a separate table but is accessible as a virtual column:
